Primary Medical Care

It’s difficult to live from paycheck to paycheck.  It makes matters much worse when you do not have health insurance. Fortunately, Centre Volunteers in Medicine is here for you. We offer free medical care  for those with a household income at or below 250% of the federal poverty level. Our goal is to provide the care you need as well as wellness education.

Case Management

The basic needs of life, such as housing, heat, and food, are important to your health. We offer case management services to anyone living or working in Centre County to help them access other services and enroll in benefit programs. We help with:

  • Completion of Medical Assistance Applications
  • Completion of Food Stamps Applications
  • Navigation of the Affordable Care Act
  • Referral to Local Community Resources
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Hearing Aid Assistance

Medication Assistance Program

Managing a chronic illness or treating an acute condition often requires medications. Centre Volunteers in Medicine is able to supply most medicines to our patients at no cost. We also offer medication education so that our patients understand the importance of the medication and why taking it as prescribed is important. We obtain medications by:

  • Processing Patient Applications to “Indigent Drug Programs” Offered by Pharmaceutical Companies
  • Purchasing Bulk Quantities at Discounted Prices (Thanks to the Generosity of Mount Nittany Health)
  • Paying for Patient Scripts at Partner Pharmacies When the Medicine Is Not Commonly Available

A Thankful Patient: Amanda’s Story

“I have been without insurance for 3 years as a result of my divorce and I am unable to afford Obama Care. How quickly health can degrade in the throes of depression and crisis such as divorce. I neglected my health and my teeth. I felt like a car that had been parked under a sappy tree for years. My self-esteem, my mental health, even my spirituality seemed affected by this neglect.

When I moved to Central PA with my children, ages 7 and 9, I heard about CVIM from a girlfriend of mine. She was very enthusiastic, so I thought I would try. Upon being accepted, I cry each time I come to CVIM…tears of JOY!

Every person has shown me compassion. There has been absolutely no judgment as I shared my vulnerability and a body that has been through divorce, depression, anxiety, poor decision making and relocation. Finally, redemption and transformation!!!”
